Biogas Väst - the first regional biogas cluster project in the world
Biogas Väst was founded in 2001 with the overall objective of contributing to market development in three areas:Production of biogas for vehicles
Distribution of vehicle gas (biogas/natural gas)
Vehicles that run on vehicle gas
By 2011 a new program was formed to support the development of biogas as vehicle fuel, 24 million SEK is invested next three years by the Region Västra Götaland.
Public-Private Partnership
Biogas Väst was the world´s first regional project for biogas as vehicle fuel. Some 30 participants from privately and publicly owned companies, organizations, public authorities and municipal authorities made the core of this unique Public-Private Partnership. The concept has been a source of inspiration and has been copied not only in Sweden but also internationally.
The overall aim was to stimulate the market development within biogas production, distribution and development of the gas-powered vehicle market. In the project, where Business Region Göteborg where the principal, some 30 organizations, municipal authorities and companies where involved, including AB Volvo, Renova, Göteborg Energi AB, FordonsGas and LRF (The Federation of Swedish Farmers).
