Biogas production in agriculture is currently underway on a relatively small scale in Sweden. However, in agriculture there is great potential to produce biogas from manure, residual products and energy crops amongst other things. According to estimates, agriculture could account for about 70% of the total potential in terms of anaerobically digested biogas production.
A major advantage of biogas production from manure is that it provides double climate benefit when used as vehicle fuel.
Some obstacles to development are, for example, the small scale nature and geographical spread. Reaching the vehicle market requires an extensive infrastructure for the distribution of biogas.
