Liquid biogas in Lidköping
Liquid biogas in Lidköping
Background
On 18 March 2010 the first sod of earth was cut for the major joint venture for biogas at Kartåsen outside Lidköping.Lidköping Municipality, in cooperation with Göteborg Energi and Swedish Biogas International, shall build a plant for the production of liquid biogas. The plant will be located near Lidköping's urban area. The biogas will be used as vehicle fuel in Lidköping for municipal and private vehicles. Some of the gas will be exported to Gothenburg and other filling stations in the area.

Purpose & objectives
The plant is scheduled for completion 2010/2011 and will then deliver 60 GWh/year of liquid biogas mainly to the transport sector. The production is equivalent to fuel for about 5 000 passenger cars.
The digested residue will be returned to farmland and replace chemical fertilizers.

Operators
Lidköping Municipality is cooperating with Göteborg Energi and Swedish Biogas International. FordonsGas Sverige, in connection with the plant, will build a filling station for both liquid and compressed gas. The project is receiving investment aid through the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's Klimp program where Biogas Väst is program owner.
