Today the built environment accounts for 40% of all energy use and the potential for energy-efficient housing is considerable. The Göteborg Region is at the forefront in the development of energy-efficient buildings and passive buildings in Sweden. Examples include Lindåshusen in Mölndal, Brogården in Alingsås, Hamnhuset at Norra Älvstranden, the passive building centre in Alingsås, a centre for passive building technology know-how, as well as the research program Homes for Tomorrow at Chalmers University of Technology. The first preschool in Europe to be built according to passive building standards is located in Alingsås.
In the Göteborg Region there is a whole range of key players within sustainable buildings, ranging from architects, building developers, consultants and contractors to technology suppliers for ventilation, control systems and isolation. The very latest technology in the industry is available in the region.
In the Västra Götaland region the aim is that 10% of the region's new construction will comply with passive building standards.
