The Göteborg region is the hub for the chemical and petrochemical industry in Sweden. It includes the refining industry gathering the full national production of transportation fuels. Large investments have improved competitiveness, increased exports and developed a stronger contribution to a more sustainable society.Competitiveness is driven by high degree of upgrading, skilled personnel, low environmental impact and a well developed adaptation towards needs from markets, customers and end-users. Examples of successful product applications are the environmental performances of transportation fuels, pipe- and cable products enabling effective transportation solutions for water and power, water-based paints, maintenance-free windows and security glass. |
| Several of the companies contribute with climate-effective solutions for a more sustainable society. In addition to building in better performance to products and processes many of the companies deliver waste heat to the surrounding societies. In Göteborg this has been implemented in large scale. In cooperation with the public and academic community, not the least Chalmers, more climate-effective developments are under research. They include energy conservation, increase use of bio-gas, renewable transportation fuels, carbon capture & storage and many others. The companies represented in the hub are Akzo Nobel, Borealis, Ineos, Göteborg Energi, Perstorp Kemi, Preem and Swedegas. Business Region Göteborg's support to the petrochemical hub aim to lift and develop the industry in the west coast region to its full potential, and to strengthen competitiveness and attract new investments. |
