Göteborg - Perfect For Prologis

When large international companies choose Göteborg to expand their operations we get curious. We look at why they chose our region over other Nordic regions. Their employees are of equal interest to us, especially the expatriates new to our shores.
Prologis is a large international real estate company specialized in developing and leasing warehouses and distribution centers worldwide. Having set up an office here in Göteborg to handle their Nordic Business they now have more possibilities for business in Northern Europe. Their key player in the Göteborg office is Asgeir Brynjar Torfason, who hails from Iceland. He stated the following:

" There were two key issues behind our establishment here in Göteborg. The first is we had already established a partnership here with locally based construction companies; in fact our Göteborg office is based next to one of them.
Secondly Göteborg is the Logistic center for Scandinavia and the Baltic sea, for example the Port of Göteborg is the biggest one in Northern Europe. Göteborg is also centrally located within the Nordic countries with Stockholm, Oslo or Copenhagen less than an hour´s flight from Landvetter."

How has the transition from living in Iceland to living in Göteborg been?

“My wife is a journalist who reports for an Icelandic publication so for us it is important to be based in central Scandinavia. There are many similarities between life here and life in Reykjavik, Iceland as the people are similar. We had lived in Oslo before so it made the move easier."

Differences from Iceland?

Göteborg is much bigger, more international, and in many ways better than cities back home. The weather is much nicer as well. There are many Icelandic people living here. Göteborg is a city that is good for everyone; it´s an easy place to move to. “

Quality of life?

“Göteborg is a very welcoming city, ideal for business or pleasure. It combines being a big city with living close to the freedom of nature."

Family Life?

“I find the city very suitable for family life and it has many advantages over the other cities I have lived in. We have two children here, a son Dagur Tomas aged 9 and a daughter Brynhildur aged 8. They are happy here and the education is similar to the Icelandic system and even better. The kids have certainly adjusted."

In Summary-Göteborg is the city for business and pleasure, or in this case for Logistics and family!
