Vårruset — (the Spring fun run) - May 7
This is a 5km fun run for women starting in Slottskogen in Göteborg. I have run this many times, including the first time — 20 years ago! It is good fun. You do not need to run; you can jog or walk and take your time. Thousands of women participate and it is quite a party. A group of 6 people get a free picnic. See www.varruset.se (Swedish only) for more information or send an email to info@varruset.se. Norway's National Day — May 17 Norwegians parade the streets in Norway with their national flag (blue, red, white). The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May17 inthe year 1814. Musical - Sweeney Todd — The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
The multiple prize-winning musical Sweeney Todd has been one of Stephen Sondheim´s most successful works since it made its Broadway debut in 1979. Audiences across the world remain captivated by the morbid story of the barber Sweeney Todd, who cuts the throats of his customers then lets his companion Mrs Lovett bake them in her meat pies — which, incidentally, prove to be a big hit with her customers! The Göteborgs Opera is proud to present a semi-staged performance in English with artists directly from the West End. The dates for this musical are May 15 to May 30. You can obtain more information (in English) and book on line at http://www.opera.se.
Liseberg Amusement Park
Liseberg is the biggest and best amusement park in Scandinavia. It is a 10 minute walk from the city centre. The park opens April 26 for the summer season and closes September 28. Even if you are interested in riding on any of the attractions it has a lovely garden that is worth seeing. To walk around the park and buy an ice cream and look at people is a very Göteborg thing to do. It costs 70kr to get in but if you plan to go a few times it is worth buying an Annual Pass that costs 175kr. This includes admission to the Annual Christmas Festival.
