Places to visit in Göteborg:
The indoor markets - Stora Saluhallen (Kungstorget) and Briggen (Nodhemsgatan)   Saluhallen Kungstorget also known as Stora (the big indoor market) Saluhallen. It  is located at Kungstorget and it opened for business on February 1, 1889. It is well worth a visit for cheeses, all types of meat,  sausage and vegetables. There are also some small cafés and pubs inside.

The other indoor market is in Nordhemsgatan near Linnégatan. You will also find this a feast for your senses and you will certainly come away with more than you planned to, particularly if you go there hungry!

Avenyn - the Avenue or Gothenburg Boulevard — the street that runs from Kungsportsplatsen to Götaplatsen. This is probably the most famous street in Göteborg. It is the street to walk along imbibing the atmosphere and checking out the people. There are plenty of places to eat or drink along the Avenue. If you walk to Götaplatsen you can see the famous statue of Poseidon, the God of the sea. He was created by Carl Milles in 1931 and has watched over the Avenue from Götaplatsen ever since. The Art museum, the Concert hall and the State Theatre are also all at Götaplatsen. There is a good restaurant called Fond, with one Michelin star, there as well. It is expensive in the evenings but reasonable for lunch.

The Natural History museum. This is the oldest museum in Göteborg. There is a huge collection of rather old stuffed animals from all over the world and a huge whale and an African elephant. It is well worth a visit and good for kids.
There is also a café and small shop there. It is actually in Slottskogen not all that far from. The website is in Swedish only.

All Saints Day (Allahelgonadagen) November 1st

This is the day when Swedes remember their dead. They often lay a wreath on the graves of their deceased family members. You will see these wreaths in the shops.
I once bought one to hang on my door but was clearly told that this was not the done thing. Some people light lanterns on the graves.

In Sweden Halloween is celebrated the same day as All Saints day, the first Saturday in November. This is due to a misunderstanding when the retail business organizations introduced Halloween in the mid-1990s. Christians and Christian organizations do not like this connection and very few Swedes are aware that Halloween in the English-speaking countries is a non-Christian holiday celebrated on October 31(source Wikpedia)
Halloween in Sweden has developed into a commercial celebration of ghosts and witches and all things scarey. You may even have children coming to your house asking for trick or treat. (bus eller godis)  One time we didn´t have any sweets at home so they threw eggs at our car parked in the drive!
