A Region of Growth and Development
The Gothenburg region is distinguished by rapid growth and fast development. The regional market is expanding and continuously generates new business opportunities. To meet tomorrow´s global challenges, the region has recently adopted a unique longterm strategy designed to achieve sustainable growth as well as a comprehensive program to deliever the strategy. The plan has been approved by all 13 municipalities in the Gothenburg region and forms the basis for overall regional planning.
One of the most important core targets is to increase Gothenburg´s commuting and labor market region. One prerequisite for such growth in the region is the further development of the city centre of Gothenburg, the core of the Region. The program also envisages ongoing migration into the region.
Today, the Gothenburg region has 950 000 citizens, and the aim is to create an integrated commuting and labor market region with a population of 1.5 million inhabitants by 2020.
The core city center should be strengthened with homes for 30 000 new inhabitants and commercial space for 40 000 new jobs.
