New Handbook reduces Waste in EU’s Networks
Methods from manufacturing to streamline work and enhance value creation in international co-operation

Mölndal (Sweden), 25 September 2008 – For two years, “LeanTTT”, a project led by Swedish research institute Swerea IVF has analysed work in one of EU’s international networks for technology transfer. The aim has been to determine how Toyota’s operational philosophy, also known as “Lean Production” could be used to reduce waste and time lag and increase the efficiency of the network’s operation.

Björn Westling, project manager at Swerea IVF and co-ordinator says: “The handbook was conceived to act as a hands-on guide for actors in the Enterprise Europe Network, but we have seen that many of the problems and solutions treated in the book are applicable for most organizations providing services to their customers”.

As one result of the project, a handbook has been published; “LeanTTT – From Waste to Value” The book describes in a concrete and accessible manner how value creation can be enhanced and waste diminished in the European network, but it is also a handbook for everyone involved in service or administrative processes.

It has turned out that Lean Production, originally a system developed to build cars, also works very well in an international network producing qualified services. Order and organisation, standardised work and continuous improvements have rendered quick and distinct results.

The LeanTTT Handbook “From Waste to Value” is available for free download from the project’s website www.leanttt.eu
