7 MSEK to obesity research
Three quarters of a million US dollars have been granted to Sahlgrenska Academy researcher Fredrik Bäckhed, allowing for continued obesity research.
The funding has been provided by the Human Frontier of Science Organization, an international organization supporting basic research focused on living organism mechanisms.

250 000 USD will be granted annually for a three year period, for continued research on the correlation between intestinal bacteria and obesity.

Fredrik Bäckheds application ranked # 1 from a total of 250 applications, 14 of which were granted funding.

Dr Bäckhed will share the funds with Matej Oresic, at the Finish research organization VTT.

The Human Frontier of Science Program, HFSP,  was founded in 1999 by the G7 countries together with the EU.
