Göteborg as a meeting destination
Göteborg has a reputation of being an efficient meeting destination with capacity to arrange conferences of 10 000 delegates or more. More than 50 international direct flights and 7 500 hotel rooms within walking distance of the conference venue in the city centre make Göteborg convenient.
Since 2001 the number of direct flights to Göteborg has more than doubled. Currently there are 57 flights from other European destinations to the two international airports in the city. The conference and fairs venue, Göteborg Convention Centre, is located in the city centre, not more than 15 and 30 minutes by car to the airports respectively.However, what makes Göteborg really convenient for conference delegates is that most of the 7.500 hotel rooms are within 15 minutes walking distance. The city´s many first-class restaurants are also close by which means that instead of spending hours on transportation, delegates can walk or take a short ride in taxi or public transport. The Göteborg Convention Centre recently revealed plans for an expansion with a new exhibition hall of7.500 square meters , adding to the existing 41.000 sq.m. Another 1.000 hotel rooms are under construction and will be finished within 4 years.
Three examples of many organisers that have chosen Göteborg are the World Association of Newspapers 2008, EuropeanAcademy of Dermatology and Venerology 2010 and Heart Failure in 2011. Göteborg will also host to the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2013 and in March this year the ISU World Figure Skating Championships was held in the city.
