Göteborg Landvetter Airport reduce carbon dioxide emissions
Through the introduction of a number of actions, Göteborg Landvetter Airport aim at reducing environmental impact emissions of carbon dioxide by up to 2,000 tons per year. The Airport is also proposing a completely new approach route system which will reduce noise exposure to the Airport´s neighbours and allow for the introduction of environmentally sustainable approaches.Today, Göteborg Landvetter Airport will be submitting a 700-page report to the Environmental Court in Vänersborg. The report gives an overall view of the environmental impact the Airport has as well as proposing a number of actions to reduce this. The report is part of an ongoing environmental investigation.
With the change over to environmentally-friendly vehicles, training courses in Eco driving, more stringent environmental demands relating to procurement of transport services, discounted parking charges for environmentally-friendly cars and taxis, replacing oil with bio-fuels used in heating, as well as a number of other actions, the Airport aims at reducing emission levels of environmental impact emissions of carbon dioxide by up to 2,000 tons per year.
The report submitted by Göteborg Landvetter Airport to the Environmental Court also contains proposals for a completely new flight approach system based on modern navigational techniques — P-RNAV. The proposed aviation approach system allows for the introduced on environmentally sustainable approaches which allows the aircraft to land using less thrust resulting in less noise and emissions.
With the introduction of this new approach system fewer households will be exposed to noise levels exceeding the national level and fewer aircraft will fly over built-up areas. These new approaches will radically reduce the number of households affected by overflights during the night. - We have created a long-term system which concentrates traffic to those predetermined flight routes. This has been a clear message in our discussions with the authorities, municipalities and those inhabitants living in close proximity to the Airport. Investment in the P-RNAV system allows us the opportunity to continue developing the system towards lower emission levels and fewer being exposed to noise, says Chief of Staff, Helen Wiberg
Göteborg Landvetter Airport is a climate neutral Airport. For every kilo of carbon dioxide fossil fuel created by the Airport´s operations, the equivalent is reduced somewhere else in the world through projects financed by the Airport.
