Göteborg — The Region of Sustainable Growth
The Göteborg Region has an extensive track record of cutting edge solutions in the field of sustainable development:

- A comprehensive district heating system has contributed to the fact that Göteborg uses less than one percent of oil for heating.
- Göteborg has the world´s largest production of climate friendly biogas injected into the  natural gas grid.
- The Preem refinery in Göteborg is one of the most energy efficient ones in the world.
- Volvo Truck´s production site in Göteborg is evolving into a completely carbon dioxide free plant.
-  The region has developed a pioneering technique for constructing house that is totally independent of external energy for heating.

 
The key objectives of the strategy for sustainable growth in Göteborg Region are:
 
- Continuously increasing population by more than 8 000 inhabitants per year.
- Geographical enlargement of the commuting and labor market in the region, reaching 1,5 million citizens by 2020.
-  Comprehensive extension of the infrastructure in the region. The aim is to double the market share consisting of public transportation in 2025.
-  Expansion of the city centre, creating 30 000 new residential homes and commercial space for 40 00 new jobs, equipped with modern facilities serving the cultural- and creative industries.
The expansion of the city centre produces a basis for further growth in the sub region centres.
Create a climate of participation among the inhabitants, corporations and organizations in the region. Especially in the planning and action processes for sustainable growth.
