Honorary doctorate for Hillary Clinton at Sahlgrenska Academy
Hillary Clinton has been awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by Sahlgrenska Academy at Göteborg University.
"Hillary Clinton's involvement in issues around medical research and health problems are well known. She is also a strong advocate for increased investment in medical research,"said Professor Olle Larkö, dean at the Sahlgrenska Academy.Sahlgrenska Academy points to her work for vulnerable children and improved health care.
Hillary Rodham Clinton studied law at Yale and in 1972 presented her thesis on the rights of children. She has also studied children's health, with a focus on brain development.
The Sahlgrenska Academy's citation reads as follows:
"Hillary Clinton is known for her strong commitment to issues relating to the future development of health and welfare. She has attracted particular attention for her work to improve conditions for children at risk, as well as her efforts to improve healthcare in the United States. She has also gained strong support for her work to raise awareness of the increased health problems linked to obesity, poor diet and physical inactivity. Her active support for medical research is also of great significance."
The doctorate will be awarded at a ceremony in the US in the autumn.
