Immunicum rewarded for business plan involving vaccine against cancer and infectious diseases
Chalmers Innovation-based start up company Immunicum, developer of vaccines against cancer and infectious diseases, recently won the regional Venture Cup final out of 121 contestants.
Immunicum was rewarded SEK 200 000, among other things for an idea with an estimated high growth potential. The patented platform technology is based on years of research within the field of transplantation immunology.
"What is unique about our concept is that we have found a way to utilize white blood cells from healthy blood donors in order to activate patients´ immune system against cancer and infectious diseases. In addition, the product allows for mass production, effective storage and transportation, and easy administration to patients" says Immunicum CEO Jamal El-Mosleh.
The vaccine has thus far shown very promising pre-clinical results and is now ready to be tested in human. During the fall of 2008, the company plans on initiating a clinical study on 22 lung cancer patients.
Immunicum recently secured substantial funding which makes it possible for the company to finance the coming clinical study and keep the business running for an additional 1,5 years.
On June 10, the national Venture Cup final will be settled in which all prize winners from the four regions compete against each other.
