Business is booming for Western Sweden´s environmental companies. Both turnover and employee numbers are increasing rapidly, as a study commissioned by Business Region Göteborg AB and conducted by the Evidens consultancy firm shows.
The study included 63 small to medium-sized environmental companies in the west of Sweden. The report contains both a survey of business conditions and an evaluation of the Ecoex export project.
The results of the business conditions survey show that 90 per cent of the companies have employed new staff during the past year. In all, the number of people employed at the companies increased by 12 per cent in 2007. All the companies in the survey say that their turnover increased in 2007. In four out of ten companies turnover increased by more than 20 per cent.
— It is probably also a good indicator of how the whole industry is developing, says Lennart Olausson, Managing Director of Business Region Göteborg AB.
All the companies are active in the Ecoex project — West Swedish Environmental Export*. The project helps environmental companies in the west of Sweden break into export markets. The survey shows that the project has so far contributed to export business totaling 65.7 million SEK, with offers pending amounting to a further 294 million SEK. 15 of the companies also say that their participation in the project will lead to export business within one or two years.
