Proposal for new labour migration rules
The proposal suggests that the employer, instead of authorities, decides whether there is a need to employ a citizen from a third country. This would in that case entail new presumptions when recruiting foreign labour. The new rules on labour migration will, if approved, come into force December 15th, 2008.
 
The number of people who receives work permits in Sweden increases each year. Most of them are from India, China and USA. Lately, there has been a slight increase of Indians, a large increase of Chinese and a small decrease of Americans.     
 
Work permits are given within various occupational groups such as research, Industry, health care, IT, etc.
