Business Region Göteborg held its annual Christmas tradition for the region´s expatriates. The day took place on December 7th at City Hall- “Börsen".The Expats Christmas celebration at Göteborg City Hall has truly become a tradition since its starts several years ago. This year´s celebration had the largest interest so far with about 280 individuals from 41 different countries!
Besides having our expats trying traditional Swedish Christmas food, there was a program set for the afternoon. As the expats arrived to the beautiful building, there was some time to mingle around.
As previous years, Lord Mayor of Göteborg, Jörgen Linder started the program and had his welcome speech. Subsequently,Petra Sedelius from Business Region Göteborg, BRG, presented the increased numbers of foreign owned companies as well as expatriates in the region.
In addition, two awards were handed out by BRG. One, named The Foreign Owned Company of Göteborg Region, was given to Indian Owned company ToolTechSoft. This award was received by Abhay Jahirabadkar who came to Göteborg with his family a couple of years ago in connection with the office set-up of ToolTechSoft which has been growing since then. The company has managed well and the family has also established well in Sweden and in Göteborg, in particular. Another award, named The Foreign Owned Organisation of Göteborg Region, was given to Olivia Ying at Shanghai Foreign Investment Development, FID.
Principal of International School of Göteborg Region, Tage Humelius, was asked to tell about the school and its development during the years and also about its interchange project with a school in Shanghai where Olivia Ying also was involved.
Helen Teame , BRG, informed about Business Establishment and Relocation and its services to foreign owned companies, the website and its work with expatriates. The next planned expats activity will be the Göteborg City Walk which will take place beginning of May.
A historical and comical surprise performed by actors was also presented to the crowd.
Last but not least, the participants could sit back and relax to traditional Swedish Lucia songs performed by students from the International High School of Göteborg Region, IHGR.
