Swedish wind power research center receives 33 million
Chalmers University of Technology will receive 33 million Swedish kronor from the Swedish Energy Agency, which are to be invested in a Swedish Technical Wind Power Center. The purpose of the wind power research center is to strengthen the Swedish competence within the field. Wind power is a rapidly growing global market and hopefully the investment in the centre will generate both economic growth and new jobs in Sweden. The TechnicalSwedishWindPowerCenter will focus on developing the construction of wind mills and with the purpose to optimize maintenance and production costs. The goal is to be able to build both partial and complete wind power systems in Sweden. The objective of the center is also to supply the Swedish industry with in-depth know-how within the field of wind power. By integrating education, research and innovation, Chalmers hope to contribute with competence, new knowledge and a transposition of today´s industries.
-This is an effective way to support research directly and education indirectly. Swedish subcontractors, within the rapidly growing wind power industry, will benefit from it. A strengthened competence within the field of wind power also creates new conditions for companies with the capacity to deliver complete wind power systems from Sweden, says Tomas Kåberger, director general at the Swedish Energy Agency.
