The Region of Västra Götaland will take the lead in energy-saving houses
The environmental board of Västra Götaland has decided on a deepened program to foster the market for energy-effective houses. It is about new housing and also the restoration of older houses.

According to the program, the house buyer will get help and knowledge and the municipalities will get support in their work when building energy-saving habitation.

It is not just about newly built houses and passive houses; also through renovation of housings, the use of energy could be made much more effective.

At the moment, The Region of Västra Götaland is leading the development of energy-effective buildings and passive houses in Sweden. There are many examples, for instance, in Göteborg (Lindåshusen) and in the MunicipalityofAlingsås (Brogården).

The targets of the three year long program are to get:
At least 10 new demonstration projects where methods and techniques can be shown
At least 10 % of all new houses to be built as passive houses
At least 50 new west Swedish actors to be present on the market for energy-effective buildings
A majority of all municipalities in the Region of Västra Götaland to actively work for energy-effective buildings

The Environmental Board has committed SEK 24 million for this program.

- Anything cannot be named an energy-effective building. We demand that the use of energy should be substantially lower than for similar buildings and that the effectiveness should not influence the indoor environment negatively, says Per Olov Blom, chairman of the Environmental Board.

- For new buildings, there is a norm for passive houses and for restorations; the energy use cannot exceed the demands of the Building Administration (Boverket) for new housing. In addition, the use of energy should be halved for heating, hot water and electricity.
