Successful Investment Seminar in Shanghai
Business Regin Göteborg together with partners successfully put through an Investment Seminar in Shanghai, China in the end of October 2010. Geely acquiring Volvo is one of many factors that has helped put Göteborg on the map for the Chinese people. Many small and medium-sized Chinese companies showed great interest in the seminar and we now have several companies from the Shanghai region that want to establish a company in the Göteborg Region.
In the end of October we went to Shanghai, China, for an investment seminar to attract new establishments and investments to the Göteborg Region. The seminar was a collaboration between Shanghai FID, Shanghai OID, Wicresoft and Vinge Lawfirm Göteborg, Vinge Lawfirm Shanghai and Business Region Göteborg. Our partners felt very strongly that this was the right time for an investment seminar in Shanghai. It was the final week of the World Expo in Shanghai, many Chinese companies showed readiness to act globally and the fact that Geely acquired Volvo a couple of months earlier had helped put Göteborg on the map for the Chinese people. All this together with very good references from Chinese companies all ready in the Göteborg Region - like Huawei and Wicresoft - made it an easy decision. The timing for an investment seminar in Shanghai couldn´t be better! Small and medium-sized Chinese companies that had expressed plans to expand into the European market were invited by our partners. Representatives from 25 companies showed up in Shanghai FID´s premises to listen to why the Göteborg Region is the best location to put their European head office.
Ms Petra Sedelius from Establishment & Investment, Business Region Göteborg, gave many reasons why our region is the ultimate location to establish a company when you want to serve the Scandinavian and North European market. Mr Luxing Liu, CEO at Wicresoft, were there to give testimonial about why Wicresoft did just that — put their European headquarters in Göteborg. He highlighted the advantages of the location and explained what kind of assistance Wicresoft had gotten trough Business Region Göteborg. He also gave the small and medium-sized Chinese companies useful advice before entering the European market.
Mr Ulf Käll, Vinge Lawfirm Göteborg, gave legal advice, explained how to start a new company in Sweden, presented what costs are involved etc. Ms Ying Yong Ping, Shanghai FID, Göteborg, gave first hand information about cultural differences between China and Sweden — both socially and business-wise. She really marketed our region by saying: “Göteborg is paradise on earth!"
The seminar attracted ICT companies, investment companies, subcontractors to the automotive industry, trade companies etc. Many of these showed sincere interest in our region and the result was that two companies - while at the seminar — decided to establish a branch in the Göteborg Region. At least one other company will do the same thing in the near future. We consider the seminar a great success. It´s also an excellent example of how we work with our networks. Without our partners this wouldn´t have been possible.
