Christmas spirit abounds in Göteborg with the approaching holiday. From mid-November the Liseberg Christmas market will be decorated with nearly five million sparkling lights. From early December a two-kilometre stretch of the main boulevard, Avenyn, will be illuminated, designed by the city architects on the theme Stylish and Innovative.The shops along the pedestrian streets and shopping malls are decked out in Christmas finery and open every day of the week. Most restaurants serve a Christmas buffet with a maritime flair. There are several Christmas markets in the downtown area and further outside the city in pleasant surroundings.
Christmas Lane From early December the main boulevard, Avenyn, will be adorned with a myriad of lights in the trees and on the buildings, illuminating bridges and squares. At the head of Avenyn, at Götaplatsen, a Christmas show of moving images is projected on the giant facade of the Art Museum. Première 7 December. The Christmas Lane runs all the way from Liseberg, along Avenyn to the central harbour. Halfway down the lane is a winter wonderland with ice-skating and choirs performing in the shape of a singing Christmas tree.
Christmas at Liseberg A large Christmas market featuring some 80 rustic market stalls and shops selling arts and crafts, as well as festive foods, an ice bar plus an ice rink and several children´s attractions. The park is illuminated by almost five million twinkling lights on trees and buildings and decorated with 700 Christmas trees. Open from 16 November, on weekends (Friday — Sunday) and daily from 5 to 23 December.
Christmas at Nordstan Some 40 handicraft stalls offering quality craft items mostly from western Sweden are on offer inside the large Nordstan shopping complex. Open shopping hours daily from 16 November until the end of December.
Christmas in Haga old town Christmas market in Haga, the old town of Göteborg, with cobblestone streets and lots of character. Haga Nygata street is decorated for Christmas and lined with shops and market stalls selling their wares. Open on weekends: 1—2, 8—9 and 15—16 December, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Old-fashioned Christmas market at Kronhuset A Christmas-themed building with market vendors and artisans in old-fashioned costumes. Kronhuset is Göteborg´s oldest official building. Open 2—16 December, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Mondays).
